Ice Cream Aunties

Missions of Aloha

How it all started

In August 2023, Trinette Furtado expressed to MRR that she wanted to create something unique within the response effort. She wanted to provide impacted communities with something essential- a sense of joy. And so, she started visiting impacted neighborhoods in her own ice cream truck.

Since the Maui Wildfires, Ice Cream Aunties has been visiting neighborhoods on a regular basis. Their mission is to cultivate joy and bring healing to those who have suffered so much loss while also connecting families and individuals with resources.

‘Radically Generous’

“We meet people weʻre theyʻre at; not where we expect them to be. Using the ice cream truck tune to bring people out, we drive to select areas and distribute free ice cream, groceries, medical supplies and Aloha. We serve fire survivors, newly unsheltered and chronically unsheltered community.”

Our service flows through parts of Kahului, Kanahā, Olowalu, Kapū`ali and Wahikuli. At times, we are asked to extend to other areas and assist as needed.
